Christmas & New Year in Vrådal
Straand Hotel is a family hotel run by the 5th generation of Straand. We warmly welcome you to a Christmas and New Year’s celebration at the hotel, where you can become part of the extended family!
With historic living rooms that are over 100 years old, the Christmas spirit comes almost by itself. With us, there is enough hospitality for everyone!
Traditional meals
At the hotel, we serve traditional Norwegian Christmas food throughout the holidays.
- On Christmas Eve (24 December) you get a 3-course Christmas menu with a cake table
- On Christmas Day (25 December) we serve a traditional Christmas buffet
- On New Year’s Eve (31 December) there will be a gala dinner with a large cake table and supper
- On other days, there is a 2-course lunch menu and a 3-course dinner menu/buffet in the restaurant
Meal times:
- Lunch at. 08.00-10.00. (January 1 to 11:00 am)
- Lunch at. 13.00-15.00
- Dinner at. 19.00-21.00
We ask you to order beverages for the Christmas dinner and New Year’s dinner during lunch the same day. This will shorten the waiting time and facilitate our work with the serving.

New Year’s Eve: Torchlight procession and aperitif
In Vrådal, there is a tradition of a torchlight procession to the center of Vrådal on New Year’s Eve, departing from the hotel at noon. 16.45. In the center of Vrådal we light a cairn. Torch can be bought at the reception for NOK. 50,-. There will also be fireworks and serving of mulled wine. Ice bathing for those who wish.
Once back at the hotel, director Lars Arne Straand invites all his hotel guests to a New Year’s aperitif at 18.30 and a start to the New Year’s celebration in Straand Bar. 19.00.
In the evening, there are children’s fireworks at 22:00, and at midnight there are New Year’s fireworks!
Night food is served in the Piano Bar after the fireworks, and until 01.00.
Other Amenities
When you want to enjoy Christmas and New Year, it is also important to do things together! Therefore, we can delight you with the fact that we have games and activities for all ages at the hotel. Below is an overview of some of the facilities.
Piano bar Open every day with sale of refreshments. Menu with sandwiches, small dishes and Straand burger and the like until 18:00
Straand Bar The hotel’s dance bar opens at. 20.00.
Playroom Large playroom on the lower floor of the hotel. The playroom is not staffed, so an adult must always be present.
Children’s cinema Children’s films are shown every evening at 20.00 in the children’s cinema downstairs, below the restaurant. See the notice at the reception for which film is shown.
Toy Boxes At the reception, we have toy boxes with different contents for loan, which can be taken into the lounges or in the room. Thank you for returning.
Board game We have a selection of board games for loan at the reception.
Billiards & Table Tennis Enquiry at the reception for equipment rental. It costs NOK 50.- per started hour for renting equipment. Equipment that is destroyed must be replaced, NOK 250 per table tennis court and NOK 450 per queue.
Wash and dry Drying room downstairs by the entrance. Here you will also find Iron ironing board and iron, as well as washing machine and dryer.
Tokens for the machine can be purchased at the reception for NOK. 50,- per piece for washing and kr. NOK 50 per piece for drying.
Ski stable Storage of ski equipment is done at your own risk in the ski stable. Please do not store ski equipment in the rooms. The ski stable is located in the hotel’s north wing. We must ask that no slalom boots are used inside the hotel for the sake of our blankets.
Toboggan run We have a toboggan run below the hotel, on the other side of the road. Loan of toboggans at the reception.
Ski slopes Trail maps of groomed cross-country skiers are available at the reception. Confer with the reception for information about the day’s trails.
Vrådal Panorama Open every day at. 10.00-15.30
Ski center 8-seater chairlift, 5 ski lifts, snowboard parks, 15 slopes with all levels of difficulty, unique off-piste opportunities, family-friendly, free beginner and children’s area, café and ski rental/ski shop.
Ski and sled rental Vrådal Panorama Ski Center has rental of cross-country skis, slalom and telemark skis, as well as snowboards. Children’s sleds can be rented at the hotel. Please contact the reception if necessary. NOK 250 per day.

Ski bus Bus to the ski center for guests who want a ride:

Return from the Ski Center at. 15.30
If you want to take the ski bus, please register at the reception by 09:00 every morning. NB. If no one has signed up, then the bus does not run.
On all departures, the bus stops in the city center to pick up/drop off guests from Vrådal Hyttepark and Vrådal Ferieleiligheter. Our cabin guests are asked to call the reception at Straand Hotel (+47 35 06 90 00) to sign up.
The bus costs NOK 60 per adult round trip and NOK 30 per child under the age of 12 round trip.
