Tour suggestion: Vest-Telemark Rundt (Telemark history)
From beautiful Vrådal with its “inland archipelago”, the road continues to Morgedal, which is considered the cradle of modern skiing.
At Norsk Skieventyr you can see and learn more about the long history of skiing in Norway and how Sondre Norheim helped shape the role of skis for the future.
Then you drive to Eidsborg where you will find the main museum of Vest-Telemark Museum and Eidsborg Stave Church.
Eidsborg Stave Church is one of the oldest and best-preserved stave churches in Norway and was probably built between the years 1150 and 1250.
At Vest-Telemark Museum you will find a large collection of local history, from buildings and cultural history dating back to the 1100s to the Telemark Canal and modern hydropower development.
Here is also an excellent opportunity to take a lunch break at the museum’s cafeteria.
The trip continues down to Dalen and up to Skafså with fantastic views of Dalen and the upper part of Bandak.
At Åmdals Verk you will find Åmdals Verk Mines with 400 years of mining history, with the first investigations in the surrounding area made in the mid-1500s and active mining from the 1690s until the end of World War 2.
Back to Straand Hotel, you drive on from Åmdals Verk past Vråliosen and along Vråvatn.
