Gaustatoppen is Norway’s highest mountain with its 1883 meters above sea level and from the top you have a view of almost a sixth of Norway’s area.
You can walk along marked hiking trails to the top of the mountain, or you can use Gaustabanen. Gaustabanen was opened in 1959 as part of a closed NATO facility, despite the fact that it was initially intended for tourism.
We recommend driving from Vrådal via Øyfjell and Rauland past Møsvatn and Rjukan on the way up.
Back home, you can drive over Tuddal, where you can order lunch at Tuddal Høyfjellshotell before driving on back to Straand Hotel via Seljord.
