Lars Arne Straand and Katrine Straand, who are the 5th generation host family at Straand Hotel, say that it was established as a coach station in 1864 by Kari and Olav Straand 156 years ago, they were the great-grandparents of Johan S. Straand, who is the 4th generation hotel owner.

“We see that those with good driving equipment, whether it has two or four wheels, get good hiking experiences by visiting us,” says Lars Arne Straand with a smile. The Straand family has a great 1969 Cadillac DeVille Convertable, a 1938 Chevrolet truck, a 1941 Chevrolet passenger car and a 1971 Toyota Crown as vintage cars that Johan has had restored. The Chevrolets are on display at the Z-museum in Treungen.

Extra service
In addition to having great roads, we offer extra service to those who come with special cars and motorcycles. We offer the opportunity to wash a car or motorcycle, and that guests get a good cup of coffee on arrival. Furthermore, we have developed good maps that show a number of beautiful roads in the surroundings here in this part of the county, so it is easy to choose great driving routes, says Katrine Straand. The options for turns and adventure freaks are many in Telemark and you can choose between shorter day stages to Rauland via Dalen and the spectacular Eidsborgberget, further over to Rjukan, down Åmotsdalen to Hjartdal and back to Straand Hotel. On this stretch there are many opportunities for good stops and great experiences.

It is also a great trip to drive to Drangedal, from there small roads over to Lund and Bø and on to Notodden over Stokland. New asphalt was laid here in 2019 and is a fantastic motorcycle and road with a high fairground factor. It is also a great trip up along the Telemark Canal from Lunde to Fjågesund and up Kviteseidskleivene to Vrådal, it is a real fairground road according to the experts.
